The Minnesota Twins have had a difficult schedule to open the season, but they won't get any sympathy from Tampa Bay. The Rays return home from a 10-game MLB Picks road trip to host the Twins in the opener of a three-game NHL Odds makers series Friday night. Tampa Bay is tied with Pittsburgh for the fewest home games in the majors and hasn't played at Tropicana Field since a season-opening three-game sweep of the New York Yankees.
Tampa Bay has won eight straight home contests dating to last season and will look to continue its success against Minnesota, which is in the midst of a seven-game road trip after splitting four games with the Yankees. The Rays won seven of 10 meetings with the Twins last season, including three of four at Tropicana. Tampa Bay’s Matt Moore will oppose Liam Hendriks in the series opener in a matchup of highly touted young pitchers. MLB Diamondbacks News

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins RH Liam Hendriks (0-0, 1.50 ERA) vs. Rays LH Matt Moore (0-1, 5.54 ERA)
Hendriks had an ominous non-start to his career when his major league debut was postponed by food poisoning. That set him up for his baptism against the Texas Rangers. The 23-year-old Australian acquitted himself well, allowing one run on seven hits in six innings. He didn’t allow a walk and threw 57 of 84 pitches for strikes against one of baseball’s best lineups.Buy Los Angeles Angels Tickets
Moore is the latest top young pitcher to be churned out by Tampa Bay’s assembly line of seemingly endless talent. Labeled a sure thing before he reached the majors, he lived up to the hype with seven scoreless innings against Texas in the playoffs last season. Things haven’t gone as smoothly in Moore’s first two starts this season. He was hit hard at Boston last week and has as many walks (nine) as strikeouts. Check out the best Handicappers at the Sports Monitor.
WALK-OFFS:
1. The Rays scored 21 runs in their last two games at Toronto and will get CF B.J. Upton back from the disabled list for Friday’s game.
2. Twins C Joe Mauer has tormented the Rays at Tropicana, batting .433 with three home runs, 17 RBIs and a 1.241 OPS in 17 games.
3. Tampa Bay last won nine straight at home from June 24-July 10, 2009. Free Picks Bet on Texas.
